Broadband fiber subscribers up to 3.76 million in U.S.
Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) topologies now pass 13,825,00 homes in the United States, the Fiber to the Home Council announced to an industry conference Sept. 23. Most growth can be attributed to either Verizon FiOS rollouts, or independent local exchange carriers with special fiber projects. Of the homes connected, 2.195 million use FTTH as their primary TV service delivery method, Render said. (The FTTH Council defines the topology as one in which fiber goes all the way to the individual living unit, including to an individual dwelling within a multi-tenant unit, and not just to a neighborhood node or a building interface. PON architectures can count, as long as the fiber employed goes to the home. )
